Residential Apartment with a Touch of Fashion Design

This residential apartment, designed by Hsuan-Ta Chiu, is a testament to the power of memories and the influence of fashion design. The homeowner, a fashion designer herself, wanted to pay homage to her cobbler father and the special bond they shared through sewing. The design concept was inspired by a pair of boots her father made for her 45 years ago, which are now proudly displayed in a cabinet.

The apartment features a carefully curated collection of fashion design elements, creating a space that is both stylish and deeply personal. The living room and bedroom are optimized for comfort and functionality, while the dining room takes the form of a side table. The slightly coarse and low chroma cement base highlights the cherished collections, creating a unique atmosphere that sets this residence apart from others.

One of the standout features of the apartment is the use of a half body mannequin from the 18th century, which is positioned against the wall behind the sofa. This not only adds an artistic touch to the space but also symbolizes the homeowner's passion for her own career in fashion design.

The design also incorporates innovative technology and materials. The television wall, for example, is made of titanium plated panel with a stainless steel frame and glass bricks on both sides, creating visual transparency and depth of field. Black track lights and exposed pipelines on the ceiling add a touch of modern industrial trend, further enhancing the unique atmosphere of the apartment.

Located in New Taipei City, Taiwan, this residential apartment project was completed on June 15, 2018. The design challenges were overcome by seamlessly blending different materials and textures to create a dreamy and visually striking space. The result is a borderless spatial design that combines coarseness and exquisiteness, reflecting the memories and qualities of the residents.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, technical skill, and resourcefulness, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
